209 libraries currently under threat
Libraries currently under threat = 209 plus 7 mobile libraries
Following a suggestion by Tim Coates, the figure includes all libraries that are current under threat. Complete list is under news, with links. I have taken the worst case scenario when numbers are known but not included a figure if it is just known that a number are under threat but no number is given.

Cambridgeshire has announced earlier this year that it is planning to cut hours and budgets at existing “Library Access Points” (previously staffed libraries now run by volunteers) and is investigating transforming all but six of its remaining staffed libraries into volunteer-run ” access points”. I have not seen any numbers put to these plans yet

Thanks Martyn. I was not aware of “library access points” – terrifying. I have just done a count on the Cambs site and if they change all but 6 to the volunteer model then that is c.30 more libraries at the very least under threat. Let me know as soon as anything definitely is known (published publicly) and I will definitely include.

Don’t forget Doncaster! 3 closures already proposed, a further 9 or so to add to that.

I would be massively surprised – I work in Dundee libraries, which I’m pleased to see not on the list – but nonetheless, I would be massively surprised if the city did not close at least two of it’s smaller community libraries. Certainly compared to the rest of Scotland, we do have a great deal of them per capita.

Duncan, thanks for the comments. Again, let me know as soon as anything is published and I will add.
