This is an excellent point raised by Timothy. And leads to the increase in fees ( to make up the difference ) I am dreading.

I work with the Mentally Vulnerable, and if late fees go up we will have a real problem.

It's easy for someone in my circles to fall ill and drop off the map for 2 weeks. This is also true for the elderly. If the late fee is 10p a day that is £1.00 per book. If it is £2 per day that is £20.00 per book.

We only get about £30.00 per week for food. So if you have borrowed 2 books, and then fall ill for 2 weeks, that leaves you going hungry by the end of the month.

This is not an exaggeration.

The 'for-profit' sector are genuinely this dangerous, and should not be allowed near key services like this.
