I like the word 'dissembling' in Peter Lansdown's description of his local authority and, by association, Ed Vaisey, our esteemed minister for the destruction of the library service. It is proper parliamentary language. However, those of us who are not constrained by parliamentary language may prefer other words: obfuscating, deceitful, duplicitous . . . are just three, but visit your local library for a wider selection. Hurry on down before the Philistines close it.

A Chalcraft, Dorset

When Somerset published its consultation paper on Library closures in December last year it called it "A Library Service for Somerset" and its first "vision" was to put "Somerset's libraries at the heart of their communities".

It is difficult to get proper dialogue with any authority which is so dissembling; it is the same with Ed Vaisey's "time and space".

If meaningful dialogue is denied in this way what alternatives are available? Answers, please, in two hundred and fifty words, oh, and with proper grammar and correctly punctuated.

yours

Peter Lansdown
Chaffcombe Somerset

I thought they were putting the ' superindenting' duties of the Public libraries Act under review as part of a wider review of 'burdens' on local authorities. It was in the list put out last year by the CLG. Good points about 'co-location' squeezing libraries in to smaller spaces.
