Can someone tell me what cuts in service, staff and stock budgets have been made to the two parliamentary libraries? Do they now use volunteers? I cannot find this information. If this is the "big society" why are MPs apparently exempting themselves from the new austerity measures now taking place? Oh, of course, silly me: they need to be well informed and have up to date information at their fingertips if they are to do their jobs well. So that's all right then. If, on the other hand, you are a member of the public and have been badly affected by the new austerity in public librares, don't worry; you were just voting fodder all along. People of my parents' generation fought a war against an implacable enemy who warmed up for that war by burning books in their streets. This UK government cleverly avoids all that by simply preventing people from having access to books. You do not need to read or undestand anything; just place that X in that box and don't worry about the future...
