In reply to <a href="https://www.publiclibrariesnews.com/2013/05/the-name-is-library-public-library.html#comment-5755">Maggie Crane</a>.

Just on a factual point to Maggie Crane; thanks for your opinion, which is appreciated as are all comments regarding the name of the organisation. I would however like to correct one factual inaccuracy. The role of President is a voluntary one - I was voted in by the membership. I do not receive a salary - not even a penny, but I do get expenses. I am currently spending about 1.5 days a week doing CILIP work - which includes talking to librarians, speaking up at conferences on behalf of librarians, meeting library groups from around the rest of the world. This all comes out of my own time as an Internet Consultant, and far from making any money I would estimate that I have lost a considerable amount by turning down jobs that would otherwise have made me money by doing CILIP work for free.
So if you tell me what the big salary and the perks are, I'd love to know, because I'm clearly doing something wrong.

As regards your lead story, it would appear the organisation which is supposed to be representing libraries not wishing to have the word "library in their own title is a perfect weapon which those who wish to close libraries can hit others with!! What hope is there if this is happening? Perhaps better the organisation just shuts down altogether, but then of course some people will lose their big salaries and perks which come with being the "President" of same, and they would not like that to happen!!
