In reply to <a href="https://www.publiclibrariesnews.com/2013/10/no-consistency-of-service-volunteer-libraries-and-luton.html#comment-5837">Julie Boston</a>.

In Cheshire East, Unison successfully helped cuts to Saturday pay. In Cheshire West and Chester, they struck against the same proposed cuts (http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/libraries-cheshire-west-shut-strike-5181461) but were unsuccessful and are now currently fighting it in the courts. There has also been action in Somerset and, notably, Southampton. amongst other places.

Nationally, Unison support Speak Up For Libraries and various support for library campaigns, although they often assist them rather than lead them so as to avoid accusations that protesters are merely protecting their own jobs. They also pay for research into the situation such as https://www.unison.org.uk/upload/sharepoint/On%20line%20Catalogue/21589.pdf

Hope this helps, Ian.
