You say "He knows public libraries well but we know that he won’t ever intervene."

Whether or not Intervention is made is predicated upon the Law, not the political mindset of a minister or secretary of state. If Maurice Nauta, of Lincolnshire, has made a sufficiently strong case for Intervention (in his 'additional evidence' letter) which Whitehall legal folk find they cannot gainsay, intervention has to be the result. Can we please NOT write off the subject while a case is still active.

Incidentally, analysis of Mr Nauta's recent submission evidence - replete with persuasive legal argument - has been notably absent from all commentary. This is an appalling oversight.

Good, sensible & balanced editorial Ian. Whatever people's views of Mr Vaizey personal insults & abuse will not help, just as it failed to do in the last term. Instead those in the sector need to build professional working relationships with him & his department if we are to have any chance of influencing their decisions
