In relation to DWP officers in libraries I can report a very successful venture. In Ross on Wye the DWP is now entirely based in the library - they have a area to one side of the foyer so they are not located in the main body of the library. When the move was proposed many of us who actively support the library were concerned that there would be a negative effect on the atmosphere and footfall in the library, but they have now been established for over a year and there has been no noticeable issue. On the plus side, the local authority is receiving a rental from them which help defray the costs of the building, and the jobseekers can go straight from their appointments to use the library computers for job search. There has also been a successful work experience placement within the library which led the individual to gain a job elsewhere. These things can work!
