Re Dawn Finch's suggestion “I want this to be a rallying cry, and a kick up the pants for anyone who thinks that handing everything over to volunteers is anything other than exploitative and unsustainable.”

In relation to libraries - volunteers are doing what they are doing because otherwise the local library would close and the local community supports retention of the library. Thus doesn’t the ‘kick up the pants’ need to be those who propose library closures. Quite likely these are senior CILIP members who run library services. Thus CILIP President Dawn Finch is in a good position to do the kicking. Education begins at home.
